In Touch 60 Years of International Road Transport Union (IRU)
60 Years of IRU
MEPs Mathieu Grosch (Belgium), Ari Vatanen (France) and others are organising an event and debate on the occasion of 60 Years of the International Road Transport Union on 8 September 2008.
In 1948 - exactly 60 years ago - the International Road Transport Union (IRU) was founded in partnership with the UN to drive the reconstruction of Europe by bringing together transport operators, developing international road transport and making economic and social interconnection possible.
The IRU through its 180 national associations in 74 countries represents and promotes the entire road transport sector - operators of coaches, taxis and trucks, from large transport fleets to driver-owners - in all international and national bodies whose decisions affect road transport.
