"The Future of European Networks of Excellence" - Open Forum

Jerzy Buzek MEP (Poland), will participate in the open forum on The Future of European Networks of Excellence in the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences, rue Vautier 29, Brussels on 20 November.

The Open Forum lasts from 9.00am to 4pm. It deals with the future of European Networks of Excellence, which were established by the European Commission in order to secure Europe´s leading position in economic and technological fields. The main objectives of the NoE are the following:

• strengthening Europe’s scientific impact in a particular research area,
• tackling the fragmentation of European research,
• spreading excellence within and beyond the confines of the Network.

The future of the NoE is however unclear. There are risks of interruption of several successful initiatives which brought together many research institutes and universities from all 27 Member States. To highlight this problem an Open Forum has been organised by several different Networks of Excellence. During the Open Forum an Opinion Paper, prepared and signed by 58 NoEs will be presented and discussed with the representatives of the European institutions.

Mr Buzek will be chairing the last panel discussion on the opinion paper from 2pm.
