8th Summit of the Chairmen of the EPP-ED Parliamentary Groups in the EU
The follow-up of the Lisbon Treaty and the new borders of freedom, security and justice
The implementation and follow-up of the Lisbon Treaty, which will in all likelihood come into force at the beginning of 2009, will have an impact on the institutional balance of the European Union. To discuss the redefinition of the relationship between the European Parliament and the national parliaments, the EPP-ED Group organised a summit meeting of the members of the EPP-ED Group Presidency and the Heads of national delegations with the Chairmen of the EPP-ED Parliamentary Groups in the national parliaments.
Prominent guest speakers included Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, and Franco Frattini, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for freedom, security and justice.
