The Bureau of the EPP-ED Group met in Portorož, Slovenia - currently holding the Presidency of the European Union. EPP-ED Members, Slovenian Ministers and Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Jan Figel', discussed EU values and identity and the contribution of Intercultural Dialogue to the EU's main strategic priorities, as well as the EU response to climate change. Reinforcing European values and identity is a key priority of the EPP-ED Group, as set out in its recently launched Decalogue strategy document. Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Jacek Saryusz-Wolski MEP, discussed EU values and their relation to EU foreign policy. The Group also called for a coherent strategy to combat climate change, and discussed specific options in the context of transport, business, agriculture and rural development sectors. Mihael Brejc MEP, Head of the Slovenian Delegation of the EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament, made introductory remarks to the meeting, which took place on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th April.
