The aim of the hearing was to focus on further research in this area which has the potential of creating economic growth and jobs at a time when the EU is pursuing the goals of sustainable development and better preservation of its cultural heritage. The hearing was divided into two main sessions: 'Cultural Heritage, Research and Sustainable Development', chaired by Mrs Gutiérrez-Cortines, and 'Future Research Needs', chaired by Vasco Graça Moura MEP. Each session was introduced by experts from different museums, archaeological and arts institutes and professors of the main universities of different Member States.
