Situation of Roma Women in the European Union

A public hearing on the situation of Roma women took place on Wednesday, 23rd November, at the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. The hearing, initiated by Lívia Járóka MEP, was the biggest conference on the topic in the history of the European Parliament. Renowned experts analysed the situation of Roma women in the whole of Europe with special regard to the economic and educational possibilities. A draft of a first study on Roma women in the EU was presented at the hearing by Mrs Járóka. The seminar was chaired by Anna Záborská MEP, Chairwoman of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.
