European Ideas Network - Summer University and European Ideas Fair
The European Ideas Network, a pan-European EPP-ED think tank, held its 4th annual Summer University and 'European Ideas Fair' in Lisbon on 22-24 September. The EIN brings together politicians, academics, journalists, businessmen, policy advisers and outside experts, to discuss major issues facing policy-makers in Europe. Among the speakers were EPP-ED Group Chairman Hans-Gert Poettering, EPP President and former Prime Minister of Belgium Wilfried Martens, Commission President José Manuel Barroso, former Prime Minister of Spain José María Aznar, and Chris Patten, now Chancellor of Oxford University and Chairman of the International Crisis Group.
Also in Lisbon, following the EIN, the EPP-ED organised a
Conference on the WTO negotiations on 23-24 September. The aim of the conference was to exchange views on the developments in the WTO trade negotiations with Members of the European Parliament, Members of National Parliaments, and representatives from the European Commission, Industry and NGOs.
