XVIth EPP CONGRESS The EPP: Your Majority in Europe
4 - 5 February 2004
European Parliament BRUSSELS
Resolution adopted by the XVIth EPP Congress
The Battle against Terrorism
The European People's Party:
Reiterates its absolute condemnation of any form of terrorist violence, its persistence to fight and overcome terrorism with all the means provided by the State of Law, and its utter support to other Member Countries in the European Union which face this tragedy.
Would like to restate that the objective of the European Union is to provide an environment of Freedom, Security and Justice. It laments that there are still parts of its territory where citizens do not feel free, or safe because of the persistent threat of terrorism. It therefore considers essential that all Member States collaborate to fight in a co-ordinated manner against terrorism, to avoid having the border-free environment in the Union used by terrorists and their collaborators to evade Justice and undermine the State of Law.
Therefore the European People's Party:
Condemns and rejects all actions that could support in any way terrorist organisations, that could expose to the democratic societies the terrorist blackmail and that could aspire to harm the strength of the State of Law in its battle against terrorism.
Reiterates its solidarity with the victims of terrorism
Calls for the absolute cessation of terrorist violence and rejects and condemns any dialogue or complicity with terrorist organisations, in particular with those recognised as such by the EU.
