The late Otto Bardong, former Member of the European Parliament, has been described as a remarkable European politician and an exemplary campaigner of the European Union: "Otto Bardong has left us much too early", said Werner Langen, Member of the Bureau of the CDU/CSU Group in the European Parliament. "He proved to be a true advocate of European integration for many decades."
Otto Bardong was an MEP for ten years after having served nine years in the State Parliament of Rhineland Palatinate. He was a quaestor for five years and was a Member of the European Parliament's Bureau.
Bardong became renowned for his expertise in budgetary matters and was an outstanding quaestor. He was Chairman of the Europe Union of Rhineland-Palatinate for 25 years and was Vice-President of the Europe Union of Germany for many years.
Otto Bardong stood down from his post as MEP in 1999 for health reasons.
