Our future: A strong Europe 17 - 18 October 2002 Estoril - Portugal Resolution adopted by the 15th EPP Congress Terrorism Within the European Unions political action plans for the 21st century, terrorism is a priority. This EU commitment has always been forcefully supported by the EPP as we have always felt that a democratic EU, committed to the principles and values it represents, cannot allow terror to prevail within its borders. Democracy requires a permanent defence from terrorists fanaticism and violence, which intend to violate the democratic system and seize the basic rights of citizens through blackmail and terror. Therefore, the EPP backs the effort and initiatives being made by the Spanish Government, with the support of the majority of Spanish democratic political groups, in order to fight terrorism and the network which supports it. |
