Resolution adopted by the 15th EPP Congress
Situation in Bali
The European People's Party
- having regard to the United Nations Resolutions condemning terrorism
- having regard to various European Parliament Resolutions and Council Decisions dealing with terrorism
A. Deeply deplored and shocked by the recent terrorist attack in Bali which resulted in serious loss of human life and property
B. Whereas political differences and disagreements are not part of struggles between cultures and religions and can never be resolved by acts of terrorism
C. Convinced that no political, social, cultural, religious or other reason can be accepted for terrorist acts, especially those directed against civilians
D. whereas all countries throughout the world suffer the consequences of terrorism
E. Knowing that terrorism is a cross-border threat, which necessitates cross-border responses
- condemns this terrible act of terrorism
- calls on the Government of Indonesia to find the persons who committed this act of terrorism and to bring them to justice
- is of the opinion that no measures should endanger democracy and the rule of law, which are parts of our most fundamental values
- calls for a new definition of internal and external security due to the new type of violent threats
- believes that both prevention and repression must be part of an antiterrorist strategy
- calls for more international co-operation and stronger initiatives to combat terrorism in order to support governments in strengthening their efforts in this common struggle
