Former German Chancellor Mr. Helmut Kohl visits EPP-ED Group

On Wednesday, 6 June 2001, former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl participated in a meeting of the EPP-ED Group in Brussels and gave a speech on European political developments.

During the same meeting, Group Chairman, Hans-Gert Poettering, received the gold medal award "Mérite Européen".

"Mérite Européen" is a Luxembourg foundation which was initiated in 1970 by the famous French law and economics professor, François Visine. The objective of the foundation is to honour Europeans for their commitment to the "unification of the European peoples in freedom, peace and fraternity". The gold medal, it exists also in bronze and silver, honours internationally known personalities for their contribution to European integration.
