Since the Treaty of Amsterdam came into force on 1 March 1999, the European Parliament has been an equal partner with the Council of Ministers in the co-decision procedure, and has thus been able to play a major role in shaping European legislation.
The European Parliament is in broad agreement with the Council of Ministers, as the co-legislator, and the Commission, as the driving force and guardian of the Treaties, on the objectives of a common transport policy...

Hearing of Commissioner-designate Antonio Tajani (former EPP-ED MEP) will take place in the Committee on Transport and Tourism on 16th June. Georg Jarzembowski MEP (Germany), Gabriele Albertini MEP (Italy), Luís Queiró MEP (Portugal), Reinhard Rack MEP (Austria), Christine de Veyrac MEP (France), Timothy Kirkhope MEP (United Kingdom) and Corien Wortmann-Kool MEP (The Netherlands) will raise the questions on behalf of the EPP-ED Group.
