Welcome to the EPP-ED Committee on Industry, Research and Energy ITRE website.
The purpose of this initiative is to outline our main aims as well as providing an insight into the work of your EPP-ED MEPs in the European Parliament. EPP-ED members in ITRE are responding to the concerns of industry and SME's in the EU.
We are campaigning for a stable and favorable entrepreneur-friendly framework in order to improve competitiveness and create growth and jobs, as well as assisting industry and SME's in tackling the current challenges of globalization, technological advances and climate change.
We have always played a key role in simplifying the regulatory process, cutting red-tape and reducing administrative burdens.
We are convinced that the EU should build on its competitive advantages by focusing on human capital, creativity, R&D, innovation, entrepreneurship and quality. This is why we are committed to establishing a genuine single market in knowledge and research.
Our major goals within the ITRE Committee also include the common energy policy where we are working towards a less import dependant low carbon economy and also ensuring fair prices and more choice for EU consumers. As a result we are focusing particularly on energy efficiency whilst stressing the need to promote further use of renewable energy sources and nuclear energy.
I hope you enjoy your visit. Giles Chichester MEP (United Kingdom) EPP-ED Coordinator on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy
The EU policies covered by the ITRE Committee are numerous and diversified, namely:
- Industry (including SME and space policy such the Galileo project);
- Research and Innovation;
- Telecommunications, Information Society and Information Technology;
- Energy.
