We hope you enjoy your visit and gain an insight into the work your EPP-ED MEP are doing to ensure the free movement of goods, services, persons and capital as well as to promote a higher level of consumer protection. An effective, open Single Market must form the core of Europe's competitiveness, and our response to the pressures of globalisation.
Our Committee's goals are to promote policies that will make the Single Market deliver enhanced economic growth and more consumer choice, while encouraging innovation and enterprise.
The vision of informed and empowered consumers, exercising their market power and confident of their rights will be at the heart of our activities.

Revision of the Toys Directive
The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection of the European Parliament held a hearing on Monday 23rd June on toy safety. |
EPP-ED Vice-Chairwoman Marianne Thyssen MEP (Belgium) is rapporteur of Parliament's report on the toys directive. Industry representatives, regulators, and consumer interest groups participated in the hearing, which examined the revision from both the industry and consumer point of view, as well as enforcement issues. Mrs Thyssen has said that consumer protection tops the political agenda of the EPP-ED Group, and that recent problems on the toy market show that despite existing consumer protection legislation, the need still exists to revise the Toys Directive.
