Turkey´s progress 2007
|
Ria Oomen-Ruijten MEP (EPP-ED, Netherlands) presented her report on Turkey's progress in 2007, for accession to the European Union.
Mrs Oomen-Ruijten is Rapporteur of the European Parliament's reports on Turkey. She welcomed the adoption of an amendment to Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code regarding prosecution of journalists, as a first step toward fundamental reform.

Mrs Oomen-Ruijten expects the Turkish Government to make use of its strong parliamentary majority to resolutely pursue reforms that are crucial to Turkey's transformation into a modern, democratic and prosperous society. 2008 will be the year of reforms in Turkey.
