2006 Budgetary discharge
The European Parliament debates the discharge to the 2006 budget of the European Union on Tuesday 22 April. The Rapporteur for the European Communities General Budget - European Parliament is José Javier Pomés Ruiz MEP (EPP-ED, Spain).
The shadow rapporteur for the EC general budget - European Commission is Ingeborg Grässle MEP (EPP-ED, Germany). The debate follows an agreement with the European Commission on a 37-measure Action Plan to reduce irregular payments made by Member States. This especially concerns structural funds where 12% of their budget (€ 4 billion), has been incorrectly spent. |
The plenary will also approve the Pomes Ruiz Report on discharge of the 2006 European Parliament budget. The report proposes a reform of the parliamentary assistance allowance in order to build up a more transparent and accountable system. The European Parliament will also grant discharge to the other EU Institutions, decentralised agencies and the European Development Funds.
The EPP-ED is in favour of granting discharge for the 2006 budget, provided that a number of measures agreed by the political groups in the Budgetary Control Committee are implemented, in order to better enforce spending control. The EPP-ED Group has always been at the forefront when it comes to safeguarding the prudent use of taxpayers' money.
Vote on the reports will take place on Wednesday 23 April. The Parliament will grant the discharge to the 2006 budget with their adoption.
There will be a press conference held by José Javier Pomes Ruiz MEP on the 2006 discharge in the European Parliament Press Centre on Tuesday at 13.00 hours.
