Frederika M.J. BREPOELS MEP
EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament

On Monday 21 April, MEPs debate and vote on a report concerning EU policy actions for organ donation and transplants. A shortage of organs for donation remains a serious problem in the entire European Union.
EPP-ED spokeperson on the issue Frieda Brepoels MEP (Belgium) underlines that a threefold approach is needed to increase the availability of donor organs: reinforced cooperation between Member States, measures to fight the trafficking of organs, and a directive for the quality and safety of organ donation and transplantation. Ms Brepoels warns that the Safety and Quality Directive should not hamper the availability of organs or increase red tape for Member States.
