Alexander STUBB MEP (EPP-ED, Finland)
MEP 2004 - 2008

The Constitutional Affairs Committee has adopted Finnish MEP Alexander Stubb's report on lobbying in the European Parliament on Tuesday 1st April. With the report, Mr Stubb and the EPP-ED Group aim to improve transparency by clearer definitions, increased financial disclosure and exploring the possibility of establishing a common lobbyist register with the Commission and the Council.

It is estimated that there are about 15,000 lobbyists and 2,500 lobby organisations in Brussels. They represent varied interests of non-governmental organisations, businesses, trade associations and labour unions, and play an essential role in the open and pluralistic dialogue of the EU legislative process. Lobby organisations also form an important source of information for the Members of the European Parliament.
