Extraordinary Plenary Session - European Council and Tibet
|
The European Parliament is holding an extraordinary plenary session on Wednesday 26 March. MEPs will hear from the President-in-Office of the European Council, Janez Janša (Slovenia), and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, on the conclusions of the European Council meeting that took place on 13-14 March. Following a request by the EPP-ED Group, the session will also include a debate on the violent repression of demonstrations in Tibet and elsewhere in China.

The European Council has set out a list of priorities and measures in areas such as climate change and energy as well as with regard to launching a new cycle of the Lisbon Strategy for more growth and jobs. EPP-ED Group Chairman, Joseph Daul, will engage in the debate on behalf of the EPP-ED Group.

Events in China will be discussed following the Tuesday evening debate in the Committee on Foreign Affairs on the issue of the repression of demonstrations.
