4th Report on Economic and Social Cohesion

Ambroise GUELLEC MEP
EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament

The European Parliament voted today on a major report on the future of EU cohesion policy in the post-2013 period. Rapporteur Ambroise Guellec MEP (EPP-ED, France) is against any attempts to renationalise the EU cohesion policy and calls for a reinforced cohesion policy.

The report reacts to the Commission’s Fourth Report on Economic and Social Cohesion. The report puts emphasis on the new concept of territorial cohesion and assesses for the first time the relation between the Lisbon Strategy and cohesion policy. Cohesion policy should be reinforced both in political and financial terms - which will enable the EU to face new challenges with a strong territorial impact, like demographic ageing, climate change, energy supply or urban concentration.
