The European satellite radio navigation GALILEO Programme will be discussed in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy on Tuesday 29 January. The report by Etelka Barsy-Pataki MEP (EPP-ED, Hungary) on the deployment and commercial operating phases of the programme will be passed by the Committee.

While the budgetary issues of the future European satellite navigation system were solved by the European Parliament in December 2007 (the key technology project will be funded until 2013 with €3.4 billion from the Community budget making Galileo a programme of added value for all European citizens. After the successful negotiations between Parliament and Council, an additional reserve of €270m shall also be foreseen for Galileo and the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) for unexpected events), it is still necessary to address the various aspects of its public governance.
