Sustainable European Transport Policy and Carriage by Road
The Transport and Tourism Committee of the European Parliament votes today on a report by Gabriele Albertini MEP (EPP-ED, Italy) on the Sustainable Transport Policy and the report on the international carriage of passengers and goods by road by Mathieu Grosch MEP (EPP-ED, Belgium).
The report on the Sustainable European transport policy takes into account European energy and environmental policies. Transport relates to both energy and environmental issues and concerns. The report thus promotes the sustainable development and growth of European transport while highlighting the needs of European energy and environmental policies.
The Committee also decides on the revision of the current regulations on International Goods and Passenger Transport by Road. The texts on International carriage of passengers by coach and bus and on Access to the market in the carriage of goods by road within the Community are both authored by Mathieu Grosch. For the transport of goods by road, the Rapporteur emphasises the importance of a clear definition of 'cabotage'. Mr Grosch supports a simple and uniform definition of 'cabotage', which will be an intermediate step towards a fully-integrated road transport market.
