MEP Blogs

Blogging is a modern way of communicating for 'Internauts'. EPP-ED MEPs use Web blogs as one of their communication tools. Some of them use audiovisual techniques, some use simply text and images.

To maintain daily contact with the public, to inform, to discuss, to communicate - these are some of the reasons why many people keep blogs. The blogs are usually written in the language of the author, but several have also English versions.

Probably the most well-known blogger is Alexander Stubb MEP (Finland), who was a guest-blogger of the Economist magazine's website:

Mr Stubb´s own blog is can be found here:

Blogging seems to be popular in Scandinavia - Christofer Fjellner MEP (Sweden) was the first MEP to use a special version of the blog - a 'moblog' - a narrated mini-movie recorded on Mr Fjellner's video phone following the daily business in Brussels or Strasbourg:

Two other Swedish MEPs keep ordinary blogs - Anna Ibrisagic and Gunnar Hökmark.

The Northern Member states are also represented by Laima Andrikiene MEP (Lithuania).

Closer to Brussels live the three Dutch, Luxembourgish and Belgian bloggers. Astrid Lulling MEP (Luxembourg) keeps a videoblog. Belgian Christian democrat Ivo Belet keeps a blog as a feature of his own website, as well as Esther de Lange (The Netherlands).

MEP blogs in English can be found with Colm Burke MEP (Ireland), and British MEP Chris Heaton-Harris:

The French language is represented in the blog of Jacques Toubon MEP (France) and the German-speaking blogging MEP is Daniel Caspary.

Three Spanish MEPs are also bloggers: the Vice-President of the European Parliament Alejo Vidal Quadras, Salvador Garriga-Polledo and Luis Herrero-Tejedor.

There are two blogging MEPs from the newest Member States - Petya Stavreva and Nickolay Mladenov from Bulgaria. The 2004 wave of enlargement brought to the EPP-ED Group several blogging MEPs. Zsolt Becsey from Hungary writes almost daily, while Jana Hybášková and Jan Zahradil (Czech Republic) are blogging on the Aktualne.cz website.

There are two more blogging Czech MEPs - Zuzana Roithová and Ivo Strejček.

Lojze Peterle MEP (Slovenia) is another blogger, and the last two EPP-ED bloggers are Boguslaw Sonik MEP (Poland)and Anna Záborská MEP (Slovakia):

Blogging is a modern method of communication, considered by many as an effective media tool. EPP-ED MEPs are using this tool as a way to communicate their work to the voters directly, and their contributions help to develop a better connection between the public and its representatives in the European Parliament.
