Aviation and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament
The Committee on Environment and Public Health of the European Parliament will vote on the report by Peter Liese MEP (EPP-ED, Germany) on Tuesday 2 October. The rapporteur supports including aviation activities in the scheme for greenhouse gas emissions trading within the Community.

The increase of greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector is enormous. Compared to 1990, emissions have increased around 100%. Rapporteur Peter Liese agrees with the Commission's proposal aiming at including CO2 emissions from aviation into the Community scheme. In order to achieve the ultimate goal of a decrease in emissions, the trade in emission allowances for aviation must include the implementation of new technologies which should coincide with the creation of the appropriate infrastructure.
