Payment services - report for easier cross-border payment

Jean-Paul GAUZÈS MEP
EPP-ED Group in the European Parliament
Jean-Paul Gauzès MEP (EPP-ED, France), will today present to the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs his report on payment services. The European Commission proposal on payment services in the Internal Market aims to make all cross-border payments (via electronic bank transfer, debit or credit cards, etc.) as easy, cheap and secure in costs and safety as the internal, "national" payments. The Consumers often feel that they are not being handled equally when making an international transfer -which can also take too many days.

The Rapporteur Gauzès thus proposes as an objective the introduction of a full legal framework for payment services, which will establish a harmonized and just cross-border payment system within the EU.
